Cream Drama to Develop Television miniseries based on the novels in
Paul Almond’s Alford Saga

Cream Drama has optioned all of the novels in the Alford Saga, a series of Canadian historical novels based on celebrated Canadian film director Paul Almond’s pioneering family in the Gaspé, it was announced by James Farr, Director of Development at Cream Drama.
Cream optioned the seven book series from Toronto-based publisher McArthur & Company after a first meeting at OMDC’s ‘From Page to Screen event last year. The four titles in the series so far include The Deserter, The Survivor, The Pioneer, and the forthcoming The Pilgrim (June 2012), all published in Canada and the U.S. by McArthur & Company.

Paul Almond is one of Canada’s preeminent film and television directors. He has directed and produced more than 130 television dramas for the CBC in Canada, the BBC, ABC, and Granada Television in the U.K. (Seven Up, Isabel) Almond is one of the very few living persons who can boast that his great-grandfather fought alongside Admiral Horatio Nelson at the 1805 Battle of Trafalgar. In the Alford Saga he has taken his unique family history and woven a fictional saga tracing the exploits of James Alford and his Canadian descendents – from the early nineteenth century right through to modern times.
