The End of the Wasp Season shortlisted for CWA Gold Dagger

September 29, 2011

Denise Mina’s latest detective mystery has been shortlisted for the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association’s Gold Dagger Award in the UK. The End of the Wasp Season is the second DS Alex Morrow mystery, which looks at the dehumanisation of victims in an increasingly divided society. Here’s what the judges have to say:

A complex exploration of the economic motives which link a murder in Glasgow and a suicide in suburban England; Mina’s pregnant police detective’s own complicated personal background and career history give her a rare depth of character and understanding as she leads her team’s investigation into the disturbing undercurrents and repercussions of economic recession.

Denise Mina’s The End of the Wasp Season is in good company with three other shortlisted books. The winner will be announced on October 7, 2011.
