The Sky’s Dark Labyrinth blog tour starts today!

With the help of our fantastic contributing bloggers, Dr. Stuart Clark will be making seven stops – with a new post uploaded each day from December 12-16th.

THE SKY’S DARK LABYRINTH is the first of a trilogy of novels inspired by the dramatic struggles, personal and professional, and key historical events in man’s quest to understand the Universe.

At the dawn of the seventeenth century everyone believed that the sun revolved around the earth. Yet some men knew that the heavens did not move as they should. And some men began to suspect that this heresy was in fact the truth. As Europe convulsed in conflict between Catholic and Protestant, these men prepared to die for that truth. This is the story of Kepler and Galileo, two men whose struggle with themselves, with the evidence and with the forces of reaction changed not simply themselves but our world.

We are pleased to announce that two of our books have been listed on The Globe and Mail‘s annual Top 100 list: Nancy Huston’s Infrared and Dermot Healy’s Long Time, No See.

Infrared by Nancy Huston

Rena, a 45-year-old photographer in Paris, visits Florence with her elderly father and her stepmother, even though she can’t bear to be away from her lover and resents her stepmother. We come to see that her relationship with her father is problematic too. Huston shows her mastery of complicated structure, wide cultural knowledge and brilliant, assured portraiture. – Michel Basilières, The Globe and Mail [read the full review]

Infrared is not for those who enjoy a simple narrative… It’s a more ruminative and sensual read, for those who prefer to move through a story on several different paths, exploring the plot from various angles and discovering meaning in the rhythms therein.” — National Post

Long Time, No See by Dermot Healy

Roddy Doyle calls Healy Ireland’s greatest writer. He’s is definitely in the pantheon; his prose is impressive. This novel covers several months in Ireland’s northwest and features an adolescent protagonist nicknamed Mister Psyche. There is little plot, but Healy makes up for this with strange dry humour, affectionate satire and a sharp eye for minutiae. – Mark Anthony Jarman

The novel Long Time, No See has made me into a huge Dermot Healy fan . . . I immediately became excited reading this book, excited to sense the nuance and weird wit and sheer power of his talent. – Mark Anthony Jarman, The Globe and Mail [read the full review]

Memoirs, biographies and literary non-fiction will be considered this year to form the Top 40 revealed on October 18th, 2011. Any Canadian can vote for or recommend their favourite true story.

Today, Canada Reads released the Publishing Insiders’s Picks, including a recommendation from our very own Dewey Diva Ann Ledden. She recommends Sixtyfive Roses: A Sister’s Memoir by Heather Summerhayes Cariou with a foreword from Celine Dion.

A compelling and unflinchingly honest memoir of a family in crisis as it falls apart and puts itself together again. The story explores the relationship between two sisters — one devastatingly ill, the other healthy but burdened with guilt.

You can vote now for Ann’s pick, Sixtyfive Roses, on the CBC Canada Reads website.
